Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA)

WHAT IS WELCA?

WELCA is a National Organization of women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. If you are a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, you are member of WELCA. The Florida-Bahamas Synodical Women's Organization (SWO) coordinates events and promotes communication between church wide, conferences and local congregational units. As a member you can participate in all of our activities, programs, circle groups or hold an office on the board. The WELCA Board meets during the first week of the month, except for June, July, and August. The Board provides direction and information on coming conferences from our area SWO group to our own various volunteer groups and circles.  WELCA link.

The Quilters meet on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 10 – 2. If you can tie a knot or cut squares from the material, the Quilters could use your help. If you knit or crochet, there is a program for you, also. The ladies bring their lunch on those days for some fellowship and friendly conversation with others. Many of the items are sent to disaster areas through the Lutheran World Relief Ministries and some are given locally to those in need. Many of our volunteers work from home and are called our silent helpers. We welcome anyone that would like to participate in any of our projects.

We, also, have a Craft and Share group that meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 10 – 2. This group provides prayer shawls to our members that may be hospitalized or to our shut-ins. This group also make pillow case dresses for the children in Africa and adult bibs that are given to local non-profit organizations.
